The name of this black Halloween cocktail was inspired by my love for Hocus Pocus.
Hocus Pocus is a classic Disney Halloween movie. In the movie, they have a magic black candle that is said to bring the Sanderson sisters back on Halloween night if the candle is lit by a virgin.
I hope I’m not spoiling anything… after all this movie has been out since 1993.
As you can see the name of this drink, The Black Flame Candle, is based off the black flame candle in the movie. Usually when I create cocktails, the name comes after the drink has already been finalized. This time I wanted to challenge myself, and who wouldn’t want to drink a black cocktail?
But there’s just one more thing I have to confess… I actually already created a different Black Flame Candle cocktail for halloween a few years back.
I bet you’re asking “Why did you make two cocktails with the same name?”
Well the answer is quite simple…I’m not proud of the first cocktail I made. I made that cocktail when I first started bartending and my bartending skills have grown exponentially since then.
So this year I decided to completely re-make this drink because I can’t let a good cocktail name go to waste.
Here is the old recipe for the black flame candle if you’re curious 😉.
This version of the Black Flame Candle is almost completely different than the first version. This black Halloween cocktail is a riff off a Margarita with flavors of rum, pineapple, and maraschino and it is quite delicious.
I’m actually craving it as I type this so let’s go ahead and make this black cocktail recipe!
Black Flame Candle halloween cocktail recipe
In a shaking tin
1 1/2 oz aged rum,
3/4 oz lime,
1/2 oz orange curacao,
1/4 oz maraschino liqueur,
1/4 oz pineapple
1/4 oz agave
1/2 barspoon squid ink.
Black edible glitter
Garnish with a flamed 151 rum lime bowl. (Leave setting cocktails on fire to the professionals if you’ve never tried it before. Make sure to blow out the fire before sipping).
I hope you enjoy this black Halloween cocktail.
Cheers!
