This year was the first year I’ve ever made spiced cranberry syrup, and I gotta tell ya’ it’s definitely going to stay in my holiday recipes every year.
I’ve been testing a bunch of different holiday cocktails out with this recipe and there’s just something about this syrup that magically pairs well with so many different spirits and flavors.
Usually cranberry has a distinct tart flavor but when combined with the holiday spices, this syrup can turn any cocktail into a Christmas classic.

These are the ingredients you will need to make spiced cranberry syrup.
- Cranberries
- Cranberry sauce
- Holiday spices: cinnamon, cloves, star anise, black pepper, allspice
- Orange peels
- Orange juice
- Brown sugar
- Granulated sugar
- Water
how to make spiced cranberry syrup
First, add in your holiday spices in a ziplock bag.
Then using a muddler, smash the spices until they are thickly broken. You don’t want to smash the pieces too small because it will make it more difficult to strain out later.
On medium heat, toast the holiday spices, stirring continuously until the spices are fragrant.
Add in 1/2 cup of water and set the temperature to low.
Cover the pot and simmer the water with spices until you notice the color of the water change.
Next, add in grated nutmeg, 1 tablespoon of cranberry sauce, 1/2 cup of cranberries, orange peels, and the juice from 1/2 of an orange.
Stir the ingredients together.
Cover the pot again and simmer until you notice the cranberries have softened and opened up.
Add in 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1/4 cup granulated sugar and stir until sugar has dissolved.
Turn off the heat, let cool, then strain out the spices.

Now you can us this syrup in many holiday drink recipes whether it’s for cocktails or teas.
This will syrup last in the fridge up to a month.
