I’ll be honest, I have a love hate relationship with Bloody Marys. I personally think a Bloody Mary recipe from scratch is the only way to drink a Bloody Mary.
I’ve worked in quite a few restaurants and bars and to tell you an inside secret… most restaurants and bars are using pre-made bloody mary mix. Which isn’t always bad thing. After all, Bloody Marys do require a lot of ingredients to make.
As a bartender myself I know I would get sick of having to make every single Bloody Mary from scratch at work, especially during a Sunday brunch!
I’ve tasted some good Bloody Mary mixes and bad Bloody Mary mixes before and I personally always prefer to make them myself because at least I know it will taste good.
This Bloody Mary recipe is so unbelievably good that it can turn any Bloody Mary hater into a Bloody Mary lover.
This post is all about the best Bloody Mary recipe from scratch!
How to make a Bloody Mary Recipe from scratch
Here is my personal favorite recipe for a Bloody Mary!
This recipe works best served in a large cocktail glass between sizes 14-16 oz
If you want to scale it up or down you should check this blog post all about how to convert the measurements to fit your needs.
Let’s get started!
Rim a 14-16oz cocktail glass with lemon juice & spice mix (celery salt, black pepper, salt, tajin)
In a shaking tin
1/2 barspoon horseradish
Pinch garlic
Pinch paprika
Pinch dill
3/4 oz lemon juice
3/4 oz worcestershire sauce
1/2 oz pickle brine
2 pinches spice mix from earlier
6 dashes hot sauce (or more if you want it extra spicy)
4 oz tomato juice
2 oz vodka
Add a few cubes of ice and use rolling technique
Place a celery stalk as a garnish in the cocktail glass
Pour Bloody Mary cocktail into glass & fill with ice
Garnish with a blue cheese olive and beef jerky for garnish
Cheers!
