how to make grenadine syrup

Grenadine syrup is just one of those cocktail syrups that NEEDS to be homemade.

The taste of homemade grenadine compared to most store bought grenadine (like Rose’s) is like night and day. Mostly because store bought grenadine uses artificial dyes & unnatural ingredients.

I don’t know about you, but I prefer to drink cocktails made with REAL fruit ingredients.

AND while we’re on the topic of REAL fruit ingredients, contrary to popular belief REAL and authentic grenadine is actually not made from cherries but pomegranate.

This grenadine recipe is SO DELICIOUS, I’m NOT kidding!!

Once you try homemade grenadine in your cocktails, you will NEVER go back to having cocktails with artificial grenadine again!

So let’s jump into this simple grenadine syrup recipe!

What you need

These are the ingredients you will need to make real authentic grenadine from scratch.

Technically, there’s really only two main ingredients you NEED to make it (sugar & pomegranate juice), however the additional ingredients in this recipe help give this cocktail syrup a magical abundance of flavor.

Cane Sugar: This will add the sweet element to make balance cocktails.

Pomegranate Juice: This will act as the liquid to the syrup and bring that vibrant color to the grenadine.

Pomegranate Molasses: Adding this will give a deeper, richer flavor of pomegranate to the syrup.

Rose Water: This will help bring out a more floral flavor in the syrup.

Orange Flower Water: This in conjunction to the rose water also helps bring out a more floral flavor in the syrup.

Pot: You need something to make the syrup in.

Mixing Spoon: You need something to stir the mixture.

Syrup Container: You’ll need to store the excess syrup in some type of syrup container after you’re done making cocktails.

For this post I will be making a small quantity of grenadine, which should be perfect to make quite a few drinks. However, feel free to increase the quantity to fit you needs.

First, pour in 1/4 cup of pomegranate juice into your pot and bring to a boil.
