The Penicillin cocktail is one of the best scotch cocktails that is light, spicy, and refreshing yet still respectfully showcases the flavor profile of scotch whisky.
This modern classic cocktail has a beautiful balance of flavors of lemon, honey, and ginger and is an easy porch sipper.
I would suggest using a blended scotch for this cocktail, however use whatever scotch you like. Let’s not forget, cocktails are meant to be enjoyed and if you like a particular scotch, drink it however way you’d like.
Also, Halloween is just around the corner and with this cocktail name, I couldn’t imagine a better cocktail to transition you right into the fall season.
So let’s go ahead and make the Penicillin!
Penicillin cocktail recipe
In a shaking tin
3-4 slices ginger muddled (or 1/2 oz ginger syrup, adjust 1/2 oz honey syrup)
1 oz honey syrup
1 oz lemon
2 oz blended scotch
(Optional: If you want your cocktail a little smokey, add 1/2 oz peated scotch and adjust 1 1/2 oz blended scotch)
Add ice and shake
Strain into a rocks glass with ice
Garnish with lemon or ginger
Cheers!
